Raymarine supported Mercury Challenge heads for start of Rolex Sydney Hobart race

Of the 83 yachts already entered for the 2006 Rolex Sydney Hobart race, there is one yacht whose campaign is, literally, being planned with military precision. Major Charles Roberts is heading up a crew of army personnel to compete on Adventure, a Challenge 67 which is circumnavigating the world as part of a British Army Sailing expedition called Exercise Mercury Challenge.

Portsmouth-based marine electronics firm Raymarine helped Children In Need to raise a spectacular £146,000 last week when Shelley Jory of Team Raymarine, 2005 winner of the Honda Powerboat Championship, woke up with Wogan on BBC Radio 2.

Raymarine supported Ian Munslow wins third place in Route du Rhum

Ian Munslow racing his Open Classe 40 Bolands Mill achieved third in the highly competitive Route du Rhum race. Finishing in Guadaloupe, he had taken a gruelling 21 days, 9 hours, 45 minutes and 31 seconds to cross the finish line, racing at an average speed of 6.89 knots.

 

Pope becomes Director of Engineering at Raymarine

Gordon Pope has been appointed as the Director of Engineering at Raymarine plc. He joins the company on November 22nd moving from his current position as Director of Operations at Motorola Mobile Devices in Birmingham.

 

By Cod, it’s Back! British Cod Championships supported by Raymarine

Over 180 fishermen are expected to register for the 2006 annual British Cod Championships taking place on 15 and 16 November. 160 competitors took part in last year’s competition in the fierce waters off the Isle of Wight, and this year’s entrants hope to beat winner, Kim Bowden, who fought off all competition in 2005 bringing in three cod over the two days.

 

Raymarine Receives ‘British Exporter of the Year’ Award

Portsmouth-based Raymarine was announced as one of the two winners of the Franco-British ‘Exporter of the Year Awards 2006’. The award was announced at a recent dinner hosted by the French Chamber of Commerce in Great Britain (FCCGB).

Two of the marine industry’s best-known global brands have combined forces with the announcement of a direct supplier contract agreement. Sunseeker, the Poole-based yacht manufacturer, has announced that it has signed an approved supplier agreement with Raymarine to install electronics on its range of luxury powerboats.
